Stove Lighter

Whether you want a lighter to light your stove at home, or you want something that you can take camping, there is a huge range of them around. Most stoves in your house come with technology that automatically sparks, but if you have an older one then getting a good Stove Lighter is well worth it. I know a lot of people who buy the disposable barbeque lighters from the grocery stores, but over a period of several years these are expensive to use, and they are not the most effective anyway. I have found that many of them stop working quickly, especially if they are knocked or bashed around at all. Waterproof Lighters are well worth the extra money too; they seem a lot more durable.

The best thing about a Stove Lighter is that the flame doesn’t have to be very hot. If you are trying to start a fire the hotter the flame the better, because it warms timber and paper up, allowing it to catch alight faster. A Stove Lighter though just has to have a flame; the gas will do the rest. You can light gas stoves up with flint steel or with other forms of sparks but I have found that sometimes they don’t work as you want them to. You are much better off having an actual flame as the gas lights up quickly.

Generally normal smoker’s lighters aren’t that good for lighting stoves. Sure, they will work but there is a high chance that you will burn yourself trying to make them work. The best lighters for this purpose are long, with the trigger away from where the flame is. The best ones just require you to pull a trigger which releases gas and creates a spark. You simply move the flame towards the gas source and wait for it to light up. Buying a Stove Lighter that doesn’t go out with a bit of wind is something that you really want to look at as well. When you are camping this can be a real problem, and you don’t want to be trying over and over again whilst your gas pours out! A Propane Lighter is quite often good for wind resistance.

If you can, get a Stove Lighter which is able to be refilled. You can buy the cans of Butane and Propane for only a few dollars, and with the little nozzle you just hold it up to the lighter, and allow them to fill up. This means that they are not only cheap to run, but you can fill them up before you go on a trip and not have to carry a big can with you.
