When people think of outdoor camping, they typically imagine summer vacations: warm days, clear starry nights, nature in full-bloom. But few campers think about camping in the winter season. However, like summer camping, winter camping is also pleasurable if you know how to prepare suitably for winter.

One advantage of winter camping is that you don't have as much group - children are back in school, and the cold climate keeps the crowds away. The strange beauty of winter is another draw: imagine motionless silhouettes of bare tree branches, refreshingly cold and crisp air, a light dusting of recently fallen snow. And if the landscape doesn't entice you, well, know that winter camping charges are as cheap as they come.

Still, winter camping also presents a number of unique hazards and risks. Here I give some of the suggestions; Buy that you can effectively minimize those risks.

Prepare the Right Equipment

You'll need a few unusual items in addition to your regular camping equipment, including a heavier latent bag and bedding to combat colder temperatures. It is also important to bring heavier, warmer clothing. You'll need a dependable source of light during the darker days and longer nights. LEDs are brighter than other bulbs, and they need less energy, so I recommend them for outdoor winter camping expeditions. Choose an LED lamp to enjoy the most light around the campground. A moveable LED flashlight is more suitable for moving about the campground at dusk. Better yet, a LED headlamp will free up both hands for optimized competence and expediency. Don't fail to notice packing a good knife. A combo knife or multi-tool is a great choice for serving multiple requirements. When you're in potentially dangerous conditions, it's best to be as prepared as probable and have as much at your disposal as you can carry. Ensure you have sufficient storage for all your provisions. It should be waterproof and airtight, to shut out the winter weather. Beef up your survival kit. In addition to basic first-aid supplies, make sure you have an emergency blanket, a whistle, and a reliable source of fire, like waterproof matches, a lighter, fire-starter, candles, etc.

Winter camping safety tips

Before you leave from home, tell someone where you're going to and give them a schedule of camping. If you will be camping in the wild, be sure you thoroughly know the area where you're heading. Obtain any maps you will need and be comfortable with basic map-reading skills like using a compass. Ensure somebody in your camping trip is educated in basic wilderness first-aid experienced in camping. Check the weather condition before you leave, so you know what to imagine. Really, you should be prepared for any situation, as weather has a tendency to change unexpectedly during the winter season.

When you are sufficiently prepared and take the right safety measures, the advantages of winter camping heavily balance its disadvantages. Have a happy winter camping

I think I was tougher when I was kid. Either that or I've gotten soft as a middle aged man. When I was younger I loved to go backpacking and camping where we would hike in for miles and there wouldn't be another camper in sight. We would pitch the tent and unroll our down-filled sleeping bags. When it came time to go to bed I would crawl in and be asleep in minutes. No foam or inflatable pads.

I still love to go camping, but I can't sleep on the ground anymore. Apparently the ground has gotten harder in the last 35 years since I was a kid. Now that I'm a little older I use an inflatable therma-rest pad that gives me about an inch of cushion. But when it was time to go to bed I would crawl into my sleeping bag and, lo and behold, there would be a rock about the size of my fist right between my shoulder blades. Funny that I hadn't seen that rock when I was putting up the tent.

Then one day I was perusing an REI catalog looking at the camping gear. I'm like a kid when I'm in the REI store, and I love it when the catalog comes. Anyway, as I was looking through the catalog I came across something that has made me love camping again - a camping hammock! Eureka! No more rocks betwen the shoulder blades. No more sleepless nights camping!

I don't know why I hadn't thought of a camping hammock years before. Maybe because I had always camped the same way, and always slept in a tent, and of course you can't sleep in a hammock and sleep in a tent too, or so I thought! They have camping hammock accessories! Rain-flys and mosquito covers!

If you are a backpacker, or a tailgate camper (which is what I am nowadays) a camping hammock is certainly an option for getting a good night's sleep. Hammocks are lightweight and portable so packing one along on your next camping trip is easy and convenient.

So what type of hammock is the best for camping? A camping hammock should be portable, lightweight, and easy to hang between a couple of trees. The best camping hammocks are made of high-strength, breathable woven nylon with triple interlocking stitching, and feature marine-grade line with metal snap links so that you can securely attach it to trees or whatever else you can find. I personally think that camping hammocks have some advantages over tents. They cost less, they pack up smaller, they are lighter, they are quicker to set up, and they are far more comfortable than sleeping on the ground.

If you're thinking about buying a camping hammock here are a few things to keep in mind:

Nylon woven hammocks are more comfortable than rope hammocks, and they dry very quickly.
Buy a good quality rain-fly. This is your shelter and in rainy weather you will be glad you have one.
Get a bug/mosquito net to keep the insects out. These pack up the size of a grapefruit and are light-weight.
Size matters. Camping hammocks come in double sized versions and are more stable. They also provide additional space to store your other gear.
Bring along additional, sturdy rope. This gives you more options as to where you can hang your hammock.
Bring the tent anyway - it's a great place to store your gear.

If you bring a hammock with you the next time you go camping I can promise you you'll get the best night sleep you've had camping since you were a kid!

Planning for camping trips is just around the corner. The camping gear stored for winter months is waiting for the time to see your favorite campground. Unless of course, you do winter camping. However, if you do not do winter camping, questions come to mind in how you keep camping gear? How do you arrange things? Can you find all your stored camping equipment? Do you have a check list made available to account for all your equipment? Then let us consider four tips to help you prepare for the upcoming camping season.

Organizing for trips or things around the house takes time. Therefore, starting early to make sure that everything is in order for your trip is an excellent spot to start. Thus, this allows for time to remember what you have or want to buy for camping.

Storage Tubs

Storage tubs have been a lifesaver for me. Until, I bought some sterilite plastic storage tubs to organize my camping gear it was difficult at best. The storage tubs I purchased from Wal-Mart at about a $4-$5 dollar amount. I chose the clear sterilite plastic tub to be able to see contents inside. Caution, the only down fall with this tub was with the lid. If, you were careful not to overload the tub the cover would stay on reasonable.

Organize gear

One container was storage for cooking utensils, cooking pots, plates, cups, and camp stove. The second container was for tent, hammer, and extra rope (this container I emptied and became the food staples for trips). The third storage container had portable fan, wash tub, table cloths, matches, butane lighter and smaller items that did not fit in the first tub. There was enough room in the three tubs to include smaller items that would be needed from my check list.

Camping Equipment Location

The nice feature about organizing the tubs was I knew what was in them and what I needed to add. They were simply stacked one upon the other and placed in the storage cabinet when, not in use. When it was time, to prepare for a trip I pulled out the containers and organized them quickly and efficiently. Without difficulty, the tubs moved from storage to garage for organizing and then to the vehicle when it was time to go.

Checklist

Lastly, the checklist has been helpful to keep track of what I have or what I may need to replace. There are some excellent camp gear check lists available on line for one to get ideas. You are more than welcome to check out my camp list. Most of the handed down camping gear for 30 plus years I acquired from my father. Therefore, if you organize and take care of your camping gear it will last for years. Finally, storage containers helped immensely to care for camping equipment.

There are many factors to consider when buying a camping tent, like size and cost. But design is certainly another factor you should think about. Each camping tent design has its advantages and disadvantages, so it's very important to find out which design is the best for your planned trip.

There are generally three basic camping tent designs

Ridge tent
Cabin tent
Dome tent

Let's take a look at their strengths and weaknesses.

Ridge tent
This camping tent design pretty much resembles the traditional tent shape. It's basically a pole supported, roof-shaped tent, kept upright by external guy ropes. Ridge tents show a simple structure and are usually very easy to set up which makes them convenient for backpacking or other tours where your camping tent is erected every evening in another place and merely a place to sleep and store your stuff. They are available for 1 to 3 sleepers and are fairly lightweight. However, this camping tent design is not the most suitable for heavy weather conditions.

Cabin tent
This is the ideal camping tent for families or larger groups spending a longer time in one place, for example on a campground. Having nearly vertical walls, a cabin tent offers large headroom which allows you to walk around inside and set up camping furniture anywhere you like. This makes indoor entertainment on rainy days or in the evenings easy. Some cabin tents can be divided into several rooms, which allow more privacy.

The cabin tent is the design that uses the ground area most efficiently and provides the most usable space inside. If you want a maximum of comfort and space, this is the camping tent of your choice. However, a cabin tent takes up more pack space and is heavier than similar sized ridge or dome tents.

Dome tent
The traditional shape is a single dome, but you also find camping tent designs made up of several domes. Another style is the half dome or tunnel design which is a great camping tent for backpacking. A dome tent offers large floors space, but less useable space than a cabin tent of the same size. However, it's much lighter than a cabin tent, and thanks to its rounded shape and flexible poles it's very wind resistant and highly sturdy even in extreme weather conditions.

A dome style camping tent is not the best option when you have lots of equipment, want plenty of space and comfort and are likely to spend much time inside, but it certainly is a great choice for travelling with a tent (which means you basically just sleep in it), especially when you expect rough weather conditions.

In general, the best camping tent for a family campsite holiday is usually a cabin tent, whilst ridge and dome tents are stronger candidates in travelling tours. For good weather trips, a ridge tent is most likely sufficient, but for rougher weather you will be better off with a dome tent. But it's also a matter of your personal taste, and the world is not only black and white. There are many hybrids on the market, too, that have features of different camping tent designs. If none of the basic designs seems to be really right, those hybrids may be the solution for you.

A special camping experience is not complete without putting up a tent. As we have discovered firsthand or seen in films, tents are not that simple to set up. This is especially the case when you do not acquire the technique of putting up a tent or more important when you do not get all the main tools necessary to put up the tent.

Your camping experience will also depend on your level of comfort. Who said that when camping you require to suffer and be irritating? Just because you are outdoors doesn't involve that you shouldn't be comfortable. To ensure that you are feeling very well and extremely delight your camping trip, there are a number of camping connected items that you should carry along with you.

The first batch of fundamental items would be toiletries and clothes. Depending on the camps location, the clothes you get with you should be comfortable and appropriate for the weather conditions. You wouldn't wish to transport heavy clothes and end up at a camp site that is super sunny or the other way around. Attempt to check the weather conditions of the camp site where you will place your tent and carry the required clothes that are proper for the particular weather condition.

Otherwise take a balance of heavy and light clothes since weather conditions forever change particularly at night. Going camping does not signify that you should throw your grooming out of the window. Since you will be in the outside grooming will require fast repairs and you should pack the essential items that will facilitate this. This include from basics such as soap, tooth paste and brush, deodorant, towels, lotion, sun glasses and tissue paper. If you want to go completely the nature way and go in the bush as our forefathers did, that is totally up to you. But grooming is very fundamental careless of where you are.

The second lot of items are the camping gear. These include a tent, if the camping site you are going to doesn't offer them, Lantern lamps, flash lighters and batteries, shovel, folding table, napping bags, camping chairs and beds, hammocks which are important for resting on particularly while camping, pen knife, binoculars, camera and camping travelling bags. The items you get with you also depends on what kind of camping it is . If it is a tent camp which will continue for an longish period of time you certainly require several items to secure your comfortability and safety. Some items which are highly advised are umbrellas in the case of rain, covers (extra ones) especially if it goes extremely cold at night.

The end bunch of items which is faraway from all the items you will need are safety and starting aid items. All the things can take place while camping. You should always be trained for anything. A first aid kit that if fully prepared with band aids, antiseptics and aspirins should be carried along with you. Also bring your identification documents, you are forever safe if you can display your identification when required.
Finally don't forget to get an excited, happy and ready for adventure, you, to terminate the camping checklist.

Either you study the large %26lt;a href='http://www.acampingchecklist.com/camping-checklist/'%26gt;camping checklist%26lt;/a%26gt; or the %26lt;a href='http://www.acampingchecklist.com/tent-camping-checklist/'%26gt;tent camping checklist%26lt;/a%26gt; you should not forget this part.

There is a host of uses for camping tables – and not just the obvious. There are the usual needs to prepare and eat food, having somewhere reliable for diaries to be written and kids to press those leaves and flowers into their collections following an afternoon's foraging. Although they are excellent to have on standby at home too, it is of course in the great outdoors where they naturally come into their own.

Camping is becoming an extremely popular pastime now and, as such, is attracting a host of different types of people. Where not so long ago, a basic collapsible trestle table would have sufficed for hardened campers, the consumer is becoming increasingly demanding. Fortunately, camping manufacturers have heeded these calls and there is now a wide range of camping tables available.

Further, there has also been an effort to create camping tables that will suit practically any camping trip. For this reason, it is no wonder that the likes of Vango, Outwell and Royal have produced tables suited to all environments and for every eventuality. Made to the highest of standards with quality materials, there are options to suit all budgets too.

It would be fair to say that the trestle-table like properties of a camping table have not been completely abandoned. This is perfectly understandable in many respects, mindful that they offered a quick, portable and lightweight solution. With advances in technology and design however, they are more robust and ever lighter. There are of course some new twists in the design of present camping tables which set them a world apart.

In its most basic form, a camping table will have collapsible legs. These will most often simply fold in on themselves, though there are those that are telescopic. One of the latest developments has seen roll up tables made from toughened fabrics, making them ideal for the likes of festival goers who may wish to move area quickly.

For more organised outings in large groups, and for families in particular, something stronger and with added permanency is needed. The material of choice in this regard is aluminium, which affords greater strength whilst also being light. They do not collapse down as much as others, but if travelling by car with a roof rack, they can be ideal.

Synonymous with camping tables of course are chairs; rarely one is seen without the other. Years ago, there seemed to be just one choice in the shape of deck chairs. Now, full sets of matching tables and chairs can be found that add a little style to the proceedings. For some, camping is far more of a home al fresco experience than the ‘roughing it' that some may still associate with the word ‘camping'.
No matter which style of camping tables best suits your camping trip, you can be sure that at OutdoorWorldDirect.co.uk we will have the answer. A proud supplier of all the latest camping tents, tables and products from the major manufacturers, we have an extensive range. With an experienced team of campers available to contact for advice, we will help your camping adventure be the best it can be.

The best camping gear for your trip largely depends on what kind of camping vacation you've planned. You could be car camping, RV camping, back country camping or even canoe camping and each trip has special considerations.

The easiest trip to plan for of course is a trip in your trailer or RV. A vacation of this type is fun because it it gives you all the luxury of home in a sort of 'condensed' space. Even in a a smaller trailer though the floor plans and sleeping arrangements are very well thought out giving you maximum sleeping comfort and space. Kids love to be in trailers and RV's so this type of camping vacation is really perfect for you and your family to get away from home for a few days. The kids will love it and both parents are going to be comfortable and cozy. As far as the camping gear goes when you're in an RV you can bring pretty much anything at all that you wish to bring without it being a huge burden. Many are equipped with running water and all the basic necessities of home so in that sense this is really the easiest type of camping vacation to go on. I suppose though you do need to know in advance which campsites support RV camping.

Of course some folks don't believe that camping involves sleeping in a bed and having your home kitchen at your disposal and would rather 'rough it' a little bit. My thoughts exactly... But the thing is you need to pack a little lighter in order to get everything you need. You can buy specialty camping cookware and sleeping pads, camp stoves, and sleeping bags that are all of an ultralight nature and they are therefore easier to pack and carry. You don't need to pack like this so much if you're using your car as a homebase or even a site that you can drive up to directly but if you decide that camping and hiking will be the vacation for you then you definitely should consider using some of this gear. It really does make life easier when you're on the trail.

Of course there are the folks that prefer canoe camping or kayak camping. Well this is a lot of fun, and very relaxing in it's own way but if you plan on having to do any portaging on your trip then it may be done more easily if you brought along a set of wheels so you don't have to unpack your boat every time you come to the next shoreline. As well you would be extremely wise to use drybags for your gear that you can clip right to your boat. This will not only do an excellent job of keeping your stuff dry but will keep you from losing it all in the event of an upset. Boats do tip over on occasion and you need to be as prepared for it as you can be by wearing a life jacket, clothing that dries quickly when wet and all of the required safety items. You can even buy drybags that double as a backpack! As far as your camping gear goes I've always felt that the ultralight gear is best suited for this type of trip but let's face it, if you're the type of person to go on a backwoods adventure for a few days away from everybody, then you likely won't mind spending a few extra bucks on the right gear to help you do it more easily.

If you feel you need more guidance there are websites and e-books available on the internet to help get you started on your camping adventure.

So I guess the bottom line is this. All camping gear is not created equal. What you may use for camping with your kids and family may not be the best to use when back country camping. The same thing applies the other way around. If you're new to it then the best thing to do is research what people are using and why and make your decisions based on that. You don't have to spend the most money on an item to get quality but if you 'nickel and dime' yourself on your gear it will likely come back to haunt you in that the gear simply will not last. Do your research, spend a bit but not more than you need to, and you'll find your gear will last you for years and years to come.

As school break approaches, everybody is preparing for the children’s summer camp. It is the time when kids spend some time out of the house to learn about independence and gain cultural experience in an alternative setting. It could be a day camp where campers could go home after spending a day in the camp, or it could be a sleepaway camp for overnighters.

There are different kinds of camps available for the children and also for teenagers. It all depends upon the preference of your child. There are camps dedicated for the art and sports enthusiasts, music lovers, environmentalists, religion-centered, etc. They could also be part of the school requirements so some of them could have courses related to their school subjects and academic in nature. The possibilities are endless.

Traditionally, camps are held in the forest, mountains, or beaches, commonly called camp sites. Usually, campers set up tents, huts, and camp fires and they arrange themselves in groups or units. This kind of camp, especially adventure camps, also does not have much facility so they would have to be resourceful in finding ways to cook and seek shelter. Because of this, summer camp supplies are an essential in the preparation before going out to a camp.

If your child is going to the camp for the first time, it is normal that you are not familiar with what to prepare. However, you need not worry too much because getting your summer camp supplies ready is not that much of a tedious task. Here, we would enumerate the essential things that you need when going to a summer camp.

• Toiletries

This is the most significant of the summer camp supplies because it might not be provided for by the camp coordinators or it might not be available in the area. It is best that your child prepare his/her own soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, and towel for proper hygiene.

• Clothes

Of course, bringing extra or enough clothes is a must especially if the camp would last overnight or for days. Children have the tendency to get dirty and sweaty because they always keep moving. Also, pack some Ziplock bags where they could place their dirty clothes to keep them from mixing up with the unused ones. Moreover, do not forget to pack appropriate footwear for your child, especially if they would go trekking.

• First Aid Kit

Do not forget to let your child bring a first aid kit containing the medicines that he/she might need in case of emergency allergic or asthma attacks, or pain relievers. Also, it is important that the first aid kit contains bandages, band-aids, and antiseptics.

• Camp Gears and Equipments

There are lots of camp gears that could be brought to the camp. It depends upon the type of camp that your child would attend. Of course, the most important is the backpack where the child would put all his things. Choose the right size and type for your child’s height and body build. Next, if the camp coordinators would not provide for it, it is also important to bring your own sheets, blankets, and sleeping bags. Sunglasses, goggles, binoculars, and other optics should also be prepared. Lastly, always keep your child ready by making him/her bring flashlights, lighters, portable fans, and other equipments that he/she could use in case of emergency.

Now, you won’t be at a loss as to what summer camp supplies your kid should bring so that he/she won’t be unprepared for anything.
