Butane Torch Lighter
A Butane Torch Lighter refers to a standard lighter that runs on butane gas. These are great little tools, because they are able to reach high temperatures in a matter of seconds. If you have ever used one you would have noticed that putting your palm even within 15 inches of the torch you can feel the heat. These come in a range of shapes, ranging from the standard smokers cigarette lighter through to ones designed primarily for lighting stoves and fires. Generally the ones with longer handles are better for lighting stoves and fires, because it keeps your body parts away from the flame. Smokers lighters are good for lighting anything vertically, but the moment you try to light something from the side you often get burned! Having to purchase a new Butane Torch Lighter every time it runs out of gas is a total waste of money because you are paying for the whole burner each time. Get a Refillable Butane Lighter as they are much cheaper in the long run.
Instead, you can purchase new canisters which are full of butane for a portion of the cost and you immediately save a few dollars. Some of these are simply refilled by getting a large can of butane, and holding the nozzle up into the refilling hole. This is handy because it means you can fill the canister up before any long trips and then you don’t have to carry a can around all of the time. A Butane Torch Lighter is usually cheaper than a Propane one, and they are also more efficient when they burn.
On the other hand, propane is better for those who are hiking because it is able to take more of a hammering. Butane doesn’t like cold weather either; if you try to light it up in anything below zero then you can expect the gas to freeze, which is a serious issue. It simply comes down to what you want to do with the lighter. Get something that is a bit more expensive, and you are sure to have something that lasts for years to come whilst not breaking the bank!
