Camping Lighter
A Camping Lighter is a very important tool that anyone who goes Camping needs to have. I usually carry a box of matches in my glove box for emergencies, but using these to light camp fires or even cookers is not a good idea. This is primarily because they are easy to burn yourself on, they are not very cheap, a bit of moisture will ruin a whole box of matches and they are not very hot either. You are better off getting yourself a decent Camping Lighter, which will last you for years to come. Some are Cool Lighters too!
If you have ever been to the local supermarket you would have seen the Camping Lighters that you can buy for around the 10 dollar mark. These are great, but they will eventually break or run out of gas and they need to be thrown out after this. Sure, you can carry a spare or two with you but you are better off getting a lighter which can be re fueled. By spending a few extra dollars you will save money in the long run, which we all want to do! Not having a reliable Camping Lighter can be potentially life threatening, especially in regions where the temperatures get very low at night.
There are a few options when it comes to getting something that will work for many years, and they don’t all cost a huge amount. If you have learned to rub sticks together then you will know that this is always a backup, but it’s a skill that is extremely difficult to master, and quite time consuming even if you do manage to do that! You can easily purchase flint steel which you basically rub together and it creates sparks. This is usually ok to light your standard gas cooker, but it is often useless when trying to start a fire to keep warm. This is especially the case when you are using wet timber or you lack fire starters!
I prefer a gas powered Camping Lighter any day of the week, primarily because they are easy to use, reliable and the heat is considerably hotter than that of a match or flint steel! One of the biggest issues when it comes to lighting a gas stove or lighting a fire is that the flames go out very easily. Today, you can purchase a Camping Lighter that is able to withstand more wind than what you can when you stand up. This means that regardless of where you are you should be able to start a fire.
This is extremely important when it’s getting dark and cold. Fires are literally a requirement in many parts of the world at night, which explains why you want to have a reliable way to start a fire, time after time. If you combine a Camping Lighter with the fire starters that you can purchase from most supermarkets starting a fire is really quite a simple process. Of course, if you have plenty of smaller sticks and newspaper you can do without these, but they really are a foolproof way to get a good fire going.

These are simply a wax like blob which is soaked in chemicals that light up and burn for a long time. The heat that is generated is enough to light up twigs and branches around, and they allow you to start a fire with very little effort. Of course, they can be costly but they are well worth it when you are trying to start a fire in the rain. They also hardly ever go out, meaning you can pile timber on top and it will still all light up, over time. Having a Butane Torch Lighter can be good for starting fires with wet timber.
If you haven’t looked online when searching for a Camping Lighter then it’s a good idea. There are a number of these that sell on Amazon and eBay for hardly anything and most of them are decent. The best thing is they are that small that you are able to carry at least one spare with you, regardless of whether you are hiking, camping or four wheel driving. Visit your local camping store too, and ask about a Camping Lighter which you can refill. You can buy the cans of Butane for hardly anything, and one can will top up a Camping Lighter for a long time.
